Long Hair Treatment

Long hair. It can be beautiful, or, if not well cared for, can ruin your whole look. As it grows, if long hair treatments are not used regularly, the ends of your hair will snap and break, the hair will lose its shine and the look will be heavy and old. Aside from a healthy diet and regular trims, here are long hair treatments that will help you keep your shine going.

First Things First

  • Healthy hair is a reflection of your overall health. That is to say, a healthy diet. Low stress lifestyle, and regular exercise is where you must start for healthy hair. No hair treatments can replace this requirement. If you are not willing to have a healthy
lifestyle, cut your hair. It is that simple.

How To Treat Long Hair

  • Important things to consider when treating long hair are the overall health of the hair, and how old it is. If your hair is waist length, the ends are six years old. That means they have survived for six years, and if you want them to survive any longer, you must treat them carefully. No hot air treatments, no washing every day, no harsh brushing. Your hair will grow ½ inch to 1 inch every month, and to keep it looking healthy, it needs to be trimmed every three to four months.

Treatment Recipes

  • Do not use many products on your hair. They can have the effect of weighing down your hair and making it look heavy and oily. When you do use a conditioner, apply it mainly to the ends, with just a dab on the top of your head. The ends are where you really need the conditioner.
Buy a deep conditioner for your hair, or make one yourself. Here are three recipes for different needs:
    For Shiny Hair:
    1 teaspoon castor oil
    1 teaspoon malt vinegar
    1 teaspoon glycerin
    1 teaspoon shampoo
Mix ingredients. Apply to hair. Leave in for 20 to 30 minutes. Shampoo.
    For Devitalized or Damaged Hair:
    1 teaspoon castor oil
    1 teaspoon camellia oil
2 to 3 drops lemon juice
Mix ingredients. Apply to hair. Leave in overnight and shampoo in the morning.
    For Damaged Hair
    1 2/4 cup dried soybeans
    2 cups pure spring water
Bring soybeans and water to a boil and reduce by half. Cover pan and steep until cool. Filter soybeans through a cloth.
Apply liquid after shampooing as a conditioning rinse.
