Brazilian Hair Treatment & Ponytail

A Brazilian hair treatment is used to straighten wavy or curly hair. The best candidates for the Brazilian Blowout are those with frizzy or damaged hair who desire sleek, shiny tresses. When worn straight, hair is frizz-free and has body; although there is still the option with this straightening treatment to wear hair naturally curly. While there are many benefits to the Brazilian Blowout, including styling time, there are also rules to follow for four days after the treatment. Ponytails, especially, are not allowed because of the kink that can happen with the elastic band.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Round brush
  • Sulfate-free shampoo
  • Hairdryer, optional
  • Curling iron, optional
  • Elastic ponytail holders
  • Loose tie
  • Hair accessories, optional
    • 1. Listen closely to the instructions of your hairstylist. Refrain from getting the hair wet, including washing and swimming, for up to four days. Limit exercise so that you will not sweat.
    • 2. Keep hair free of ponytail holders, clips, bobby pins or anything restrictive. The hair is still vulnerable to demarcations during this initial period. Brush hair daily using a round brush and leave hair untouched for four days.
    • 3. Wash hair on the fifth day. Place a dime-sized amount of sulfate-free shampoo in your hands and rub together. Begin at the roots and wash hair to the ends. Rinse completely with warm water. Towel dry and brush hair from the ends to the roots.
    • 4. Allow to dry naturally for straight, smooth hair. Place a round brush at the ends of hair and dry with a blast of heat from a hairdryer if you want a softer, under-curl look. The same can be achieved with a curling iron.
    • 5. Brush hair back beginning at the forehead. Gather the hair into a ponytail. Place the ponytail between the crown and occipital bone on your head. Stretch the ponytail holder using your thumb and forefinger around the hair and repeat as many times as it will go, most likely two to three times.
    • 6. Slip a loose tie, such as a scarf, underneath your hair at the nape of your neck. Pull both ends up so that they are even. Cross the ends over, place one end under the other and pull down. Tighten the tie. Cross over again and make a knot by pulling taut. This creates a loose ponytail while the other is higher and tighter on the head.
    • 7. Add any adornments, such as a ribbon or rhinestone clips, to the ponytail or surrounding hair. Spray hairspray on the sides of the head to keep hair in place.
Tips & Warnings

Refrain from using mouse, gel or hairspray on hair immediately after the treatment.

For a messier look, back-comb the ponytail and spray with hairspray. Use wax to create stiff spikes on your ponytail ends.

Hair can break and split from too much hot air on the ends.
