How to Make a Fruit Enzyme Foot Soak

Fruit enzymes are widely touted for their skin renewal and anti-aging properties. Some work by helping remove skin cells damaged by sun rays while others have strong antioxidant properties. This natural beauty trend is easy to replicate yourself at home with a pampering foot soak. Directly using the flesh, seeds or inner skin will stimulate enzyme activity to help detoxify skin and remove impurities. Strawberries, papayas, kiwis, pumpkins and passion fruit are particularly good for making relaxing footcare soaks. You don't need to get to a spa to treat your feet to some exfoliating, fruity goodness.

Things You'll Need

  • 15 strawberries
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • Blender
  • Foot basin or similar container

1. Cut strawberries in half. Strawberries enzymes have cleansing and anti-inflammatory properties which gently refresh and exfoliate your skin. Blend your strawberry halves to a pulpy consistency.
2. Adding some honey is super for stressed-out feet (and it's ok to have a taste too).
Warm up your milk on low heat, but be careful not to let it bubble. When it's hot to touch, take it off the heat and let cool for one to three minutes. Pour blended strawberries, brown sugar and honey into the milk and stir gently to dissolve the honey.

3. Pour your fruit enzyme soak into a foot basin or other suitable container. Let your feet soak for 15 to 20 minute. You can also use the brown sugar to additionally exfoliate by rubbing the gritty particles against your skin for two to four minutes.
4. Fruit enzyme soak will have your feet feeling baby soft. Besides relaxing your feet, the fruit enzymes and acids in the soak tighten and refine skin texture by actively sloughing off dead cells so your feet will feel softer immediately.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have a blender, you can try mashing the strawberries by hand to as pulpy as you can get them.
  • You can test the milk's temperature by dipping the handle of a spoon in quickly and letting a drop fall on the back of your hand. It should feel hot but not scalding.
  • An optional step to get the best results from your foot soak is to put on a thick layer of a good foot or body moisturizer after and wear socks overnight.
  • If you are not sure if you have allergies to strawberries, please check by rubbing a cut slice of one against one patch of skin on your inner arm and waiting half an hour to see if any reaction such as a rash occurs.
