Biosilk Hair Treatment

Biosilk Silk Therapy is a hair product manufactured by Farouk Systems USA. It is a lightweight hair treatment intended to soften and smooth hair while adding shine and repairing damage. The Biosilk products are characterized by the addition of a silk extract---ethyl ester of hydrolyzed silk.

Ingredients

  • The main ingredients in Biosilk are intended to coat and seal the hair cuticle. These ingredients include cyclomethicone, dimethicone, panthenol, and ethyl ester of hydrolyzed silk, all of which make hair look shiny and smooth. Biosilk also contains a form of alcohol for quick-drying (SD alcohol 408), a sunscreen (octyl methoxycinnamate), fragrance and preservatives.

Consistency

  • Biosilk Silk Therapy needs to be shaken before using, because the product has the consistency of a serum (thicker than water, thinner than a cream or lotion). Without shaking, the product begins to separate and the surface becomes runny.

Application

  • Shake the bottle of Biosilk well. Pour a small amount (dime-size) of the treatment product onto the palm of your hand. If you have fine or short hair, use less. If you have a lot of thick or coarse hair, you may need to use more. Rub your hands together, making sure to coat the tips of your fingers with the product. Rake your hands through your hair from the scalp to the ends. Focus especially on the ends, which are the driest part of the hair.

Benefits

  • Using Biosilk on your hair will help eliminate frizz, maintain the health and moisture of your hair, and keep it manageable. It also protects your hair from the sun and adds shine without weighing hair down.

Drawbacks

  • Don't be fooled: Biosilk can't actually add moisture to your hair, or cure already-fried locks. The hair that you see growing from your scalp is already dead, so Biosilk won't change the chemical makeup of the hair itself. It can only coat the cuticle and prevent further damage. Using too much Biosilk can make your hair look greasy, especially around the roots. Biosilk is flammable, so keep your bottle away from fire.
